August 29, 2009 brings F295’s first west coast event. F295 has partnered with San Francisco State University to bring you a free seminar on 21st Century Photography. This will follow the same format as other F295 events- a day long event which exclusively features photographers talking about their work and the inspiration, ideas, and rationale behind it…

The seminar is on 29 August 2009, 10:00am – 4:30pm, at San Francisco State University in San Francisco, CA, US, and features talks by Jo Babcock, Martha Casanave, Susannah Hays, Kerik Kouklis, Chris McCaw, Tom Persinger, Brian Taylor, and Claudia Wornum.

B&H hosts a very special and rare gathering of some of today’s leading alternative process photographers for a one day event of epic proportions. We’ve packed as much as we can into this 6 hour event! You’ll hear presentations from each photographer about their work, engage in discussion around alternative photographic practice, and participate in a dialogue about the state of contemporary alternative photography.

Speakers Include:

This event is not to be missed by anyone interested in; alternative process (from albumen to ziatype), pinhole, zone-plate, toy camera (Holga and Diana), and self-made cameras! B&H Event Space will be hard pressed to contain the amount of creative energy that will be present on this day.

I’d like to let you all know about The f295 Seminar on Contemporary Alternative Photography, hosted by B&H Photo, Video and Pro-Audio on Sunday, January 27 [2008] from 10:30am – 4:30pm [in New York City]. The event will take place in their brand new, state-of-the-art multimedia Events Room. The event features lectures, demonstrations, and discussion about contemporary alternative photographic practices and information about the upcoming f295 Symposium.

The following photographers/artists will give talks and be available for question/answer: Craig Barber, Laura Blacklow, Jill Enfield, Jesseca Ferguson, Scott McMahon, Erin Malone, Tom Persinger and Jerry Spagnoli.

Thursday May 29, 2008
5-10pm: Symposium reception with work sharing & ‘mini-trade show’ event!

The impromptu work sharing session that erupted at the end of the lectures/round-table discussion last year was such a hit that it’s been officially incorporated as part of the schedule of events. We have a large room in the University Center at Carnegie Mellon at which there will be tables for registered symposium attendees to spread out images, cameras, and other materials and equipment to share with other participants. We’ll also have our friends from B&H there with assorted goodies and symposium specials as well as a few other choice vendors! (this event is ONLY for registered symposium attendees)

"Photography Without a Lens: An Artisanal Approach" workshop, NJ, US

Join us for this lively and engaging workshop in which we’ll investigate the artisanal qualities of lensless photography. Participants can expect to discuss the historical and contemporary uses of lensless photography, learn about different camera options and then design and construct a camera to achieve different types of images. Spend time using the camera(s) to make images and developing/printing those images in the darkroom. We’ll also enjoy discussions regarding the counterpoint these "primitive" techniques play in the world of contemporary photography, peer review of participants pinhole work, and how the longer exposures inherent to pinhole work affect both the images and the act of making them.

The workshop runs 8–10 September, 2007 at the Peters Valley Craft Center, 19 Kuhn Rd Layton, NJ, US. It will be run by Tom Persinger, who is an accomplished pinhole camera builder & photographer, runs the f295 Lensless Photography and Alternative and Adapted Process photography fora, is the organiser of the upcoming 2007 Symposium on Lensless, Alternative and Adaptive Photographic Processes, and has written numerous magazine articles on lensless imaging. In short: you’re in good hands!

Ag, "the international journal of photographic art & practice" is published quarterly in the UK and should be available in artsier-fartsier newsstands.
