Hungary’s once great photo chemicals producer Forte incurred losses of over HUF 150 million in 2006 and is forced to close down for good.   1. Interesting point from the article – the company turned a profit in 2005 but two other competitors folded (the article doesn’t give the names). Forte had hoped this would be good news, but the market became then became flooded with product and they didn’t have the resources to wait it out.

    So they almost made it. They failed, but also kind of didn’t fail.

    Sad – I really do like their film.

  2. That is interesting as well as a little bit scary. With Forte going under, there’ll be even more cheap film on the market, leading to less business for the remaining players. It seems like the best thing to do right now is to buy film from companies that are still producing it. It would really suck if this domino effect continues and knocks out yet more manufacturers.
